In 2021 we will continue to use the USGA’s Golf Genius software. We will be utilizing this program for online signup, scheduling, tournament results, season long statistics, and Men’s Association news.
We will also continue with tee assignments the way we arrived at them last year for normal weekend skins play. Thus, players may choose whether they want to play the Blue or White tees. A player may hit from the Gold tees if his Handicap Index and age total 80 or more. Certain events will utilize multiple tees, but please bear in mind that some monthly tournaments may require the entire field to play from the White tees. Our goal is to create a fair environment for competition where players get to play the tees they want to play. In the long run, we may move players with certain handicaps to different tees to narrow the playing gap during weekend play, but our current solution is to consistently split the cut sheets when we have larger groups. We are going to make a concerted effort do this on the days when we have 40 or more players in the cuts.
Take notice that we will play lift, rake, and place as near the original spot in all bunkers this season. We will continue with our rule where; on days when the course declares the entire course “cartpath only,” we will play the rough as preferred lies. We also have decided to adopt Local Rule E-5 this season, which is an alternative drop to stroke and distance for lost and out of bounds balls. This information can be found in more detail on your local rules sheet along with many other important rules decisions for the 2021 season.
The World Handicap System is still in effect. Some notable changes are an adjustment for weather, instantly changing handicaps from round to round, 8 out of your last 20 scores counting, and maximum net double bogey for all handicaps. We are asking for simplicity’s sake that if playing with the Men’s Association to record a maximum of triple bogey if your handicap is 18 or less and if your handicap is over 18, to record a maximum of quadruple bogey. Golf Genius will take care of the rest as far as net double bogey is concerned.
The board is continuing to work hard to expand the size of our group and its participation, but we can’t do it on our own. Please make a personal effort to help grow the Hollows Men’s Association. Invite your friends to join and play in as many events as you can. Through all your hard work, last season we had massive participation throughout the pandemic. Let’s keep it up and make 2021 even better.
